A Parasite's Guide to Rewriting History

1.
“I’ve found a place”, you said. “And if you follow me we’ll be free.” “I’ve found a place. Let’s take up arms and fight.” “And finally, we’ll take what’s ours.” You asked us down, so we followed you. And your load crushed your mind. So we took it on us, for you. You took the time to change our minds. And you pushed your weight on us. But your burden wasn’t real. So you planted a lie and watered it with our work. Then you crushed our words. So when it’s said and done the only thing left is your story. Come Down. Come Down. For you. Come Down. For you. Come Down. For you. Come down. For you. So we found you with your hair undone and your words echoed in our bleeding ears And this is all that’s left of the legacy you destroyed. Of your ridiculous plans and your worthless ideas. So what do you want now? How will you spin this tale, to twist the truth and make yourself the hero.? Well you shook our faith. And you closed our minds. And we trusted you, to do the greater good. But you used your freedom to cover up your twisted heart. And in the end, you let us down.
2.
There’s a house surrounded by fields of rye. And it’s kept like a shrine to a woman who’s long gone. But her memory lives on so she shows her boys the way inside. First you find your favorite place, then you imagine a door in the wall, and you have to break through the burden of belief. So we found a door to find our way home. And we left the world to find our way. And even though we’re all so scared we will push ourselves on. Give a man a purpose watch him chip away. And if his purpose in violent the violence turns back on him. I watched the door in the wall and I know where these things lead. Now I can have everything I want, but all I want to do is see behind the door in the wall. Give a man a purpose watch him waste away. All he’s got to do. All he’s got to say. And all he wants is to hide The door in him. So leave these walls as they stand. We’re all still here together roaming through these darkened rooms with our arms held straight out.

about

The title track on this album has been expanded and rerecorded by Bill and Chris' side project Amae. You can check it out here: amae.bandcamp.com/album/a-parasites-guide-to-rewriting-history

The parasite hangs your face, next to so many others, on the walls of his dirty room and then welcomes you. He stands, while you stay seated on the floor, unsure what you should be doing. His huge hands creep under your arms and he lifts you to standing as if you were a child, and then throws his flabby arms around your neck. His meaty flesh pushes your face into his sweaty neck and the tears come, first his, then yours. He promises you a place so filled with rapture that you will never be sad again. A place at his side. A place, he says, that he can only show to those that are willing to receive. He discovered it inside of himself while he slept and soon realized he could take others there with him. People like you. His skin is hot to the touch and sweat is pouring from you both. You are under his protection…

This is an album years in the making. The first track “A Parasite’s Guide to Rewriting History” Is something new and quite experimental for us. We’ve stayed away from guitar solos on this one, hoping to sculpt an emotion more than anything. The second track, “Artifacts of a Different Possibility” might be recognizable in parts. This was Spiral’s first epic. We used to perform it under the name Snail, and you can hear a part of this song on our release “Live on Matijevic Hill”. We were happy to get a piece of this original epic out there, but we had to leave large parts off because our performance wasn’t up to par. So, we decided to re-record the parts that weren’t suitable and release it here. This music is meant to be listened to loud, so turn it up!
