The Traveler

by Spiral

/
1.
The red giant stirs. The sun is expanding. My alarm sounds. This planet is done. I watch my sun burn. The planet will die. The spaceship shudders, the heat shield strains. Beyond Pluto I watch the Earth break apart. What makes me human is gone. I am alone. Here in open space my path is free. I am the traveler. The sun boils and quakes. The super nova is imminent. I scan for her ship, no life signs but mine. Did she make it? Is Anomoly alive? My sun explodes, a split second to react. I abandon the search. The universe is my domain. Without her, I roam the void. I am the traveler.

Now your heart lays prone on your sleeve. And you start to believe that everything you see is not what’s real. And there’s nothing left that you can feel. So you sit right down and let the world fly by. Although there’s nothing left to do and everything you think’s been said a million times before. There’s still a small space you left inside. Untouched by your all-consuming pride. So empty your ridiculous shelf of all those books you never read, and find a new place to hide. Now I know your mind it aches and your heart is shattered. So you better let it all go and start everything all over again.
3.
Hovering over ancient planes and sun-bleached valleys. His invisible ship idles while he scans for life. And in a small mountain cave, writing in his ancient tomes, counting out eons, He finds the Traveler. So the Traveler lifts up his arms and beckons the invisible ship. So with fear in his heart and awe in his mind, he enters the cave. But the traveler ends his fears, lays his ancient hands on his head, and gives him the key to all knowledge.

R.I.P. Rip 12:16
Sun and sand, like ocean waves, lap at his blistered feet. Well he has nowhere to go and everywhere is the same. But still, he must move on. And every eye that catches his And every thought that flutters by Must quickly turn away And they say time waits for no man But he’s still here alone Wondering if he’ll ever make it back home So many stars circle the sky Yet they all seem to pass in the blink of an eye Then shatter like so much glass. I’ve done so many things I regret I’ve seen things I’ll never forget But my last thoughts are of her Sweet Anomoly, my daughter I hope her world is a better place And I hope she’ll remember my face After I am dead and gone It will be her turn to sing a new song. No matter what he says Or what he does He’s instantly forgotten Loved ones and strangers alike Have forgotten the taste Of his name on their lips And they say time waits for no man But he’s still here alone Wondering if he’ll ever make it back home I’ve done so many things I regret I’ve seen things I’ll never forget But my last thoughts are of her Sweet Anomoly, my daughter I hope her world is a better place And I hope she’ll remember my face After I am dead and gone It will be her turn to sing a new song. So many stars circle the sky Yet they all seem to pass in the blink of an eye Then shatter like so much glass. At night when he chases sleep His mind looks back to time gone And people he’s known swallowed by the deep Never again to the dawn But he’s seen countless sunrises And sung the same old song Until finally he realizes He’s been after death all along So he locks the controls His journey won’t be far He’ll try to meet old souls In the center of a star.
